RPG Maker games

Written May 31 2025

My girlfriend and I played Catgirl a couple of days ago and we had a ton of fun with it. It's a really cute, short game and really funny if you're into that type of lol random xd humor. It works though. It's also incredibly high effort for what feels at times like a shitpost. It's such a lovely game and it's clear to me that the developer put a lot of love and passion into it.

I also really want to be more creative now. I've been wanting to expand my reach beyond just writing (and crochet and the occasional drip painting) into other fields as well. I played around with RPG Maker a bit today and tried making some sprites for an idea that's been bouncing around my head lately. I didn't really get anywhere though; pixel art is just not for me. Something about it just doesn't seem to click. I really do like RPG Maker games though. There's just something about them that is really charming to me, even the ones that use the default textures. It's just people's hobby and passion projects and I think it's great that RPG Maker allows them to express themselves like that, even if they do not have the programming knowledge to develop a game of their own or in another engine. Still, I shelved that project again for the time being.

I might finally pick up drawing instead, which I've wanted to do for a long time. I might be able to bring some of my ideas, which would be hard to express through writing, with that. I drew a ton as a kid, including making my own comics and stuff in a school art club that we had. I never really took it anywhere though, i.e. I didn't learn any fundamentals and techniques. I should just start; I just don't really have the time to do it right now.
